The Forum of Young Global Leaders is a unique, multi-stakeholder community of more than 900 exceptional young leaders. Nominated under 40 years of age, these young leaders are proposed through a qualified nomination process and assessed on the basis of rigorous selection criteria. This creates a diverse and truly representative body, while accepting only the very best leaders who have already demonstrated their commitment to serving society at large. Both the Global Shapers and Young Global Leaders are initiatives of the World Economic Forum.

2. What happened?

An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale centered less than 50 miles from Kathmandu rocked Nepal with devastating force early Saturday, taking more than 5,000 people and injuring many more. A government spokesperson has estimated the death toll to go up to 10,000 people. Accurate numbers will come in as rescue efforts make progress in the days and weeks to come.

3. What are the Global Shapers and Young Global Leaders of Kathmandu doing?

The Global Shapers and Young Global Leaders of Kathmandu are doing a donation drive for basic necessities. These funds will support efforts of verified and efficient NGOs identified by Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub as most capable of helping in severely earthquake-affected areas like Sindhupalchowk and Kathmandu valley.
